A new camera

I bought a new camera for our trip. It is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC- W290 I spent a fair amount of time today playing with it. This was a picture I snapped of a crabapple branch today. It took me a long time to read through the instruction book. It has some real nice features. I think I will be able to upload pictures each day onto my blog.

Autumn Leaves

I have been following the fall color charts for weeks now in anticipation of our upcoming New England trip. Did you know that there are charts that tell you when the fall color is peaking in different parts of the country. Every day I search the news on line to check the state of the trees and the percentage of peak color in the region. I am so excited to share this beautiful phenomenon with my husband. You see he is from TX and didn't grow up around hardwood trees turning brilliant oranges and reds and golds in the fall. I on the other hand grew up in Ohio and lived in Kentucky and I have never forgotten the time I hiked up into the Appalachian mountains one day in the fall and stood on a ridge and looked out over the expanse of rolling low mountains covered in the most extraordinary colors. I felt as if Monet had gone mad and I was standing in the middle of a painting that was created with buckets of paint being hurled at the earth and every slight breeze would send ripples of visual sensation through my brain.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. - John Muir
